    How it works

    1. PremiumsYour share per paycheck, times paychecks a year.
    2. CopaysA plan with a copay charges you that flat amount for each visit or fill. It counts toward your out-of-pocket maximum, and toward the deductible only if you turn that on for the plan.
    3. Deductible, then coinsuranceCare without a copay is yours in full until the deductible is met, then you pay the coinsurance share.
    4. Out-of-pocket maximumWhat you pay for care stops at the plan's maximum.
    5. HSA moneyFor a plan that allows an HSA, the employer's deposit and the tax you skip on your own deposit, at the rate you typed, come off the total.

    Questions

What are the 2027 HSA limits?

$4,500 for self-only coverage and $9,000 for family coverage, counting your employer's money, plus $1,000 more if you are 55 or older. The calculator fills these in when you pick "Just me" or "Family" and keeps your own deposit under them.

What counts as "low", "medium" and "high" use?

Whatever you type in "Your year". The examples are a light year, a year with a few visits and a monthly prescription, and a year with a big bill such as a surgery or a birth. Put in a year you know is coming, and compare.

Why does the HDHP sometimes come out cheaper even at high use?

Lower premiums and HSA money can be worth more than the gap between the two out-of-pocket maximums. Change one number at a time and watch the table to see which part tips it.

Does this save what I type?

No. The numbers you type stay on this page and are not saved: close it and they are gone.

    What does this leave out?

Networks, which drugs a plan covers, out-of-network care, separate deductibles for each person in a family, and anything your plan documents say differently. Check those there.
